Historical Materialism
[ send me this paper ]
6 pages in length. Throughout history, mankind has
attempted to separate itself from the rest of the natural world by devoting time and energy to the pursuit of individualism. This perpetual quest, as chronicled throughout the ages, has caused humanity to turn into a myopic entity whose complete and utter focus is upon the self as opposed to society – and the entire natural world – as a whole. Historians and great thinkers as Marx and Engels have taken ample opportunity to point out the discrepancies of such destructive actions, noting that the primary downfall of human civilization will undoubtedly be the ceaseless aim toward materialism. Bibliography lists 8 sources.

Historical Society Of Pennsylvania: Review
[ send me this paper ]
8 pages in length. As with any institution that has existed for decades, some of the very aspects considered to be their greatest strengths back then have become some of their greatest weaknesses. This dichotomy develops into an even more challenging element where the stability of the institution is concerned when board members lose sight of a common objective. This is what has transpired with the Historical Society of Pennsylvania, inasmuch as this nearly one hundred-year-old institution faces the duality of remaining true to its roots within an ever-changing contemporary society where that approach is most obviously outmoded, along with the misdirected and personally myopic appreciation of the myriad activities the Society maintains at the expense of the board's ability to continue its social and economic solvency. History of Detroit, Michigan
[ send me this paper ]
This 10 page report discusses the
history of Detroit, Michigan, one of the United States’ oldest
and largest cities. It is the seventh largest city in the United
States and at the core of a large metropolitan area. It is also
one of the oldest cities in the country, founded in 1701. By the
second half of the 19th century, Detroit was well established and
prospering. As railroads were constructed in the 1840s, and
especially with the completion of a link to Chicago in 1852,
Detroit became a primary transfer and processing point for
products from the interior of the country. Its great diversity
of manufacturing concerns included iron and steel foundries,
leather tanneries, chemical plants, engines builders, and
shipmakers. Such industries, and the ready availability of both
labor and capital, provided the foundation for the establishment
of the industry base that shaped the future of the city -- the
automobile industry. Bibliography lists 5 sources.
